Hi group,
I have two Romneya coulteri ( Californian Poppy tree) side by side in the
garden, both came from the same nursery and were planted at the same time
eighteen months ago. Last year they flowered and looked great.
This year one is fine and the other is drooping and the leafage is going
yellow, in fact it looks as though the plant is dying slowly.

Please has anyone any idea what might be happening? Could it be a disease? I
would hate to lose both plants if it was.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Romneya are drought tolerant but assuming that you're watering them both at
least a little during this very dry weather, it is just possible that you
have got one plant that just isn't a good 'doer' - it happens and it's
nobody's fault. OTOH, be sure you're not over watering them and leaving
them absolutely soaked. AFAIK, Romneya are pretty trouble free and are
resistant to e.g. honey fungus. Is it possible that the one in trouble
could have had a mole burrow under it, leaving its roots dangling? Could it
have been caught by spray drift from a herbicide or had the roots damaged in
some way? When you planted it, did the root system look healthy and free of
vine weevil?
