Re: Storing seeds

I store mine in an airtight plastic container with silica gel inside to
absorb any spare moisture and place in the fridge not the freezer....some of
my tomato seeds are over five years old and still viable.....H

Re: Storing seeds

You might freeze them, but they store well in a cool to cold, but dry area.
I put mine in a coffee can with a plastic top (actually 5 or 6 coffee cans).

And when you lose everything and hit rock bottom, you know who your friends
are.

I always keep my seed packets, both opened and new ones in the salad drawer
of the refrigerator. I've done this for years and very rarely have a
failure.
And as I'm a tight-fisted sod, I've already bought my stock of seeds for
next 2006 season because local stockists often have
bargains,.....two-for-one etc, stock clearances and so on, at this time of
year. Same with equipment and ancillaries.
The only downer I had this year was with some old Lobjots Coss lettuce
seeds. I tried three sowings and only got one seedling.....which I promptly
snapped in two when I came to plant it. But so what ? A failure isn't a
catastrophe.

Re: Storing seeds

On this one I would have to defer that to one of the UK residents.....am
sure some of the 'boys' or 'girls' over there can come up with an
answer......but, possibly a florist....or a good garden center.....H

I got mine from by special order from a friendly pharmasist. If you put the
seeds in the freezer they must be dried with silica gell first else the
cell walls burst, as I understand it. There are other dessicants but I dont
know what they are.

We just keep ours in an old wooden wine box in a cool dry dark place (under
the stairs) and don't seem to have any problems with them keeping year on
year. With our self saved seeds we just ensure they are very dry before
bagging them up (in paper bags not plastic).

Photographic Supplier or good Camera Dealer. Commonly used for
storing equipment. Sold in small porous bags for immediate use or
sometimes in bulk to fill your own bags.
