book recommendation: Orchids; From the Archives of the Royal Horticultural Society
I just acquired this book
Orchids
From the Archives of the Royal Horticultural Society
by Mark Griffiths
and am enjoying it immensely. It not only has good narrative, but also great
watercolor pictures of orchids as illustrations.
Among the interesting pieces of trivia about orchids that I had not read
before: Did you know that in 1913 British suffragettes smashed up Kew's
orchid house, since they considered orchids a symbol of the patriarchy? Poor
orchids viciously attacked for their association with men. :-)
