New canes from the bud union

Has anyone had any success in getting roses to start new canes from the
bud union? Thanks

This type of new growth is usually refered to as a
'basel/basil break'. For most growers of grafted roses it is the most
desirable growth.

Epsom salts are believed to encourage 'basil/basel breaks' as well as
scraping away any heavy 'bark' from the graft area, and exposing the
graft/bud union to direct sun light after the danger of frost has past.
