Yes, I just wrote a big check to the AOS a few weeks ago. This quarter

Very nice petals. If you have better than that on the bench you got an
FCC somewhere there...

Yes, these are the OZ besseaes. I ordered a couple hundred when they
first came out. Trying to get a few awarded while the iron is hot,
looks like it is hot already! *grin* Reason for ordering so many was
multifold, but the main reason was to bloom out as many as possible to
select some of my own studs. I'll keep 4 or 5 of the absolute best.

88 points, yes. I wasn't robbed though. I agree with that score, and
think it is a little high, myself. Of course I've seen more of this
generation than the team that looked at the plant... This one is indeed
exceptional, but I have at least one better (rounder petals with very
little point, and equal or greater size). I'd be surprised if somebody
hasn't already gotten an FCC, but if I want one it will have to be in
the next few months before the shine wears off.
They were judging it at the table next to me. It must have taken them 2
hours to evaluate the two plants. Looked at every slide in the library,
argued back and forth... It was interesting to hear, or overhear.
Usually when that happens they are trying to justify an FCC. Takes a
certain amount of testicular fortitude (for the judges with testes, I
don't know what the female judges require... *grin*) to score an FCC,
since people tend to notice if you are wrong. And the scores bear that
out. The two fully accredited judges came in at 91 and 89, and the
probationary on the team at 85. It is all confidence.
Just priming the pump for next month... *grin* Actually I didn't think
the 80pt besseae was awardable, I just brought it for comparison.

Re: Besseae heaven!
And I thought it was bad when a team of our judges took a bit over two hours
to look through the whole group of besseaes (16 plants?, a few had different
parents from the AQ group). We had a total of 13 awards in January and I
didn't get my camera packed up until at least a half hour after most of the
judges left.

Re: Besseae heaven!
Assuming you're using Outlook Express as your newsreader, do the following:
Click on Tools > Newsgroups A window that has all of your ISP's
groups will pop up. You might want to "Reset" the list to get a current
listing.
Then, at the top, type in: alt.binaries.picture.orchids At that
point, it should be in the window below, and you simply select it with a
single-click, and click on the "subscribe" button.
From that point forth, it should be in the "folders" pane of OE, and you're
set to go.

Re: Besseae heaven!
Some service providers do not include all newsgroups. If the ABPO group is
not there contact your provider and tell them that you want to subscribe and
they should make it available.

Re: Besseae heaven!
Ray,
Fewer and fewer ISPs are carrying the alt.* newsgroups due to legal concerns
over the vast amount of pirated material available in those groups.
Alt.binaries.pictures.orchids is fairly rare in that it's not nekkid people
or pirated software!
Google groups doesn't even carry or archive anything under alt.* for
instance.
I finally bit the bucket and pay $8/month for access to Giganews - a
commercial UseNet service. Almost a full year of binary retention and I
never worry about missed posts anymore.

I access the net through Comcast, and they supply Giganews at no "extra"

Bad assumption.
His headers show he's using google groups.
Last I looked google groups didn't have binaries.
If he's lucky, his ISP will list the news server on the support page.

It isn't so much that you're a knucklehead as
1) You're using an ISP (aol) that no longer provides USENET access directly.
2) You're using a USENET provider (google groups) that never provided
binaries.
My usual smart alec response is "Here's a nickel, go get a real ISP,"
but you probably have an irrational attachment to that AOL email address
and possibly the AOL software.
Your options include, but are not limited to.
1) obtain a non-free USENET provider like giganews or newsguy in addition
to your ISP.
2) move to an ISP that already includes USENET.
3) if broadband is available in the area and you live in an area blighted
with suburbia, odds are there are 3-5 unsecured wireless networks available
from your neighbors. It's fairly easy to find out what ISP your neighbors
are using, and what the name of the newsserver for their ISP is.
#3 is surprisingly effective if morally, ethically, and legally challenged.
