Hi, has anyone noticed that there seem to be fewer slugs and snails this
year despite the wet weather (well in the SW anyway).
Could it be because we actually had a proper cold spell for a change?

Up here, in the wilds of Bolton, snails and slugs are thriving, as are red
lily beetle and wasps. However, I've noticed a lack of greenfly. As for
plants, this year seems to be a good year for honeysuckle and laburnum.

We have lots of snail "shells" :-)) Slowworms, Frogs, Toads, Thrush (Not
that we have seen it this year)

As for honeysuckle, have to agree on that one :-))

BUT, we do have little black slugs, about an inch long damaging the Flag
Irises :-(( These have been eating round the base of the flower bud so the
complete flower collapses :-((

So true! I'm in Manchester and last night I've made 3 coffee jar full
with snails and slugs. Also our honeysuckle is absolutely amazing. I'll
take a photo tomorrow and will show it. I think it's been the warm sun
we've had, then the rain, then the sun ... however my white lilac has
suffered terribly because of the heavy downpour :o(

I'll second it being a good year for Laburnums. Mine is looking better than
it has done for at least three years.

Plenty of slugs and snails about, main culprits my carrots and Gilia (
little known ferny annual ). Honeysuckle not out yet. I'm in Devon.

They are causing chaos in my garden that I am struggling to establish in
the face of a slimy chomping brigade. Several plants that I've bought
to try and establish have been destroyed - I'm not very happy.

plenty of slugs and snails in Reading , Berkshire :(

Also plenty of aphids both my honeysuckle and roses have been attacked.
Keep squashing them when I get the chance but difficult to get at the
ones on the honeysuckle as then get inside the new growing leaves and
flower buds(don't want to damage the buds.

Got blackfly as well :(

And some whitefly

Fewer? Here in West Yorks there seems to be an explosion of the things,
especially snails. In my garden they're hanging from all the shrubs,
swarming over my lawn, clogging up the paths. I could do with a wheelbarrow
to collect them. Plenty of black slugs too, and the revolting pale green
ones!
