OT computer/newsgroup question
I have Safari on my Mac but am told by News Individual that I can't use
it to read newsgroups. Does anyone else have the same problem and if
so, how did they overcome it?

I don't understand why not. What reason did they give? Is it
something to do with logging in, or posting? Or Proxies?
The quickest solution would be to download thunderbird and use that,
but I am not too happy with thunderbird for usenet. Fantastic mail
programme, a bit pants for news. Mainly in the area of killfiling and
filtering. There are reports that it goes really slowly on OSX tiger
But trying it out would cost nothing but time.
Heard good things about Multithreaded Newswatcher (MT-NW) and Hogwasher
and Unison, which might involve cash changing hands.

AFAIK, Safari is only a web browser. You need a separate newsreader. I use
Hogwasher, available from <http://www.asar.com/>. Not free, but free trial
for 60 days (nice long trial), and then current price is 49 USD, which is
about 26GBP. I did try MT-Newswatcher <http://www.smfr.org/mtnw/> but
personally didn't like it. YMMV. You can also download MT-Newsreader from
Version Tracker: <http://www.versiontracker.com/> and if you search on usenet
newsreaders there (or Google Mac newsreaders), you'll find other choices.
Have fun experimenting!

Just downloaded MT-Newswatcher (was using Thunderbird). The
killfile system is good, and I like the way it manages
quoting in replies. But I can't stand the way every post
you open appears in a new window. I like to space through
from one post to the next with my keyboard; MT-NW's setup
means I have to do lots of mousing and double-clicking, then
looking around the screen to see where it's put the window
this time. So, it's good, but not good enough.
