Could be. Cats are very possessive and territorial. Does your cat ever rub
her face up against any of your trees? This is a cat's way of marking her
possessions with a scent we don't smell: my owner, my house, my friend, etc. She may
have been protecting the house & property.
Busta the Lab is definitely Kasi the cat's dog. They kiss & lick each other
several times a day. Last year we kept another dog for a few months for a
neighbor who had a fire. A couple of times he violated dog etiquette & Busta
growled at him. Kasi, who has a slight hearing problem, heard this from two rooms
away, & came tearing in ready to attack the dog she perceived as threatening HER
Busta.
