For the boxwood: The boxwood belongs outdoors at all times, except when on
exhibit. The cat belongs INDOORS at all times. She will be safer, healthier, &
live longer. End of problem. However, if your cat needs greens, grow a pot of
grass for her, rather than catnip. The pet stores sell packets of the right
kind of grass.
Regarding the palm tree. First of all, no plant will be happy living
permanently on your desk, except an aspidistra or aglaonema, unless your desk is right
under a south window. If you like having a plant on your desk, rotate several
and keep them outdoors the rest of the time.
You don't tell us what kind of a palm you have. You must find out. There are
many plants called "palm" which are not palms at all.
