#1: Newbie with a question

Greetings all,
I just recently bought a set of bonsai tools and one of the ones included
was a knob cutter. I understand this isn't used all that frequently.
However, it sure looks like a root cutter. In a pinch, could a knob cutter
be used as a root cutter?
