Sorry folks, I mistakenly only sent my reply to Bob.

Here is what I said.

Bob - This has also happened to my trees and to other people's larches in the
Toronto area. Fortunately, it doesn't seem to happen too often. The symptoms set
on quickly, over night, literally and by the time you suspect something is wrong, it
is too late. The foliage will start to droop and turn a lead like colour. This can
afflict only one branch or the whole tree. There seems to be no cure for it;
however, if only a branch is afflicted, that branch can be cut off and the tree
_may_ survive. No guarantees. The other thing I have observed is that it seems to
happen when there are prolonged periods of hot and humid weather.

Years ago the folks at our horticultural college at Guelph, Ontario, were contacted
about this. They believed that it was some sort of fungal infection but had not
heard of these symptoms before as occurring in larches. An analysis was not done.
They also suspected it is probably unique only to container grown larches. That may
be true because of all the years that (we) have been collecting and working with
larches, this "mysterious wilting disease", as you put it, has not been observed in
nature.

That's about it, Bob. Sorry the news isn't good.
