Unrecognised butterly

It stayed on the ground for a few minutes and displayed speckled orange

Can anyone identify it?

Likeliest thing is a Speckled Wood butterfly. It is usually a woodland
butterfly but it does occur in gardens.
The caterpillars eat grasses.
